SCHEDULE

Day 1

Hiking duration: 4-5 hours. Total elevation gain: +1,000m. Total distance: 4.5km.
Meeting at 12:30 PM at “Prionia” (elevation 1,100m), at the start of the trail leading to the “Spilios Agapitos” refuge (elevation 2,100m).

To reach the starting point, we take the road from Litochoro to Prionia, which is the last point accessible by car (18km from Litochoro). The last stretch of the road is a dirt path in good condition, ending at a refreshment area/restaurant with a fairly large parking lot. There are also public restrooms and water sources to fill your water bottles. Here, a detailed briefing will be given on the route, our pace, stops, etc.

The trail we will follow is the European E4 trail, the most frequented hiking trail on Mt Olympus. The hike will take place on a well-maintained path that crosses a dense forest of beeches and firs, giving the landscape a unique ambiance.

Amidst the impressive centuries-old trees and at a very relaxed and slow pace, we will reach the refuge “Spilios Agapitos,” where a lavish dinner will be waiting for us. During the ascent we will have filling sandwich and juice.

Day 2

Hiking duration: 3-4 hours. Total elevation gain: +597m. Total distance: 4.5km.

Hearty breakfast at the refuge at 8:00 AM, followed by our ascent to “Giosos Apostolidis” refuge (elevation 2,697m). Just as on the first day, we will keep a slow pace towards the impressive Plateau of the Muses.

After reaching 2,100 meters, the vegetation thins out noticeably as we enter the alpine landscape. We will move through a wild and spectacularly beautiful area and steeper slopes until we reach the Plateau of the Muses and the “Giosos Apostolidis” refuge.

Here, we will have our second overnight stay and ample free time for relaxation and a summit meal. In the early afternoon, those who wish can climb to Prophet Elias at 2,803m or, for the more daring, to the peak of Mt Olympus, Mytikas, at 2,918m.

Day 3

Hiking duration: 5-6 hours. Total elevation descent: -1,550m. Total distance: 12.4km.

Breakfast at the refuge between 6:00-7:00 AM, followed by our descent from the Plateau of the Muses to “Gortsia” (where the bus will pick us up), with an intermediate stop for lunch and rest at Petrostrouga refuge.
